You & I are no less

Look, other side of the river fertile,
Close up, you see sterile.
Around, the people are happy,
Dig inwards, you are sappy.

Look, other side of land greener,
Close up, you find wintry dry.
Neighbors, they’re affluent,
Introspect, you aren’t less opulent.
Source: Google
Look, other side of the valley tempting,
Close up, it’s a beauty deceiving.
Passers, they’re jubilant,
Search inwards, you aren’t less exhilarant.

Look, behind mountains they celebrate,
Close up, you see brawls exasperate.
Friends, they’re witty,
Count on self, you are crafty.

Look, the urbanites enjoy,
Close up, you see them unemployed.
Others, they’re vibrant,
Judge yourself, you aren’t less exuberant.

Look, things appear better off with others,
It’s you, who captures it so.
Mirror yourself high,
You aren’t less high.

PS: Composed just to update my Blog, it hasn’t shaped to label as poem per se.

  1. This is amazingly written! And it's so so true. Instead of being envious of what others (seem) to have, we should be happy with ourselves and what we achieved. It makes all the difference :) Have a wonderful day!

  2. Well done, Sangay! I could not write a poem like this, and English is my native language. I can see that you are working on that self-development part of your life that gives you a break from accounting! Perhaps you've heard of the proverb in English, "The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence." We always think what others have is better until we actually see that it isn't. You expressed this very well in your poem. Have a happy day!

  4. Wonderful lines Sangay sir. Life indeed is a mystery, I say. We long for things that can never be ours and grumble for not having enough, instead of being grateful for what we are gifted with. A bit of realization and things would be much better I suppose. Enjoyed the piece! Good Day :)

  10. Sangay, it is a beautiful poem in which different readers will come up with different meaning and interpretation. Your are very true, there is not bias in the mother nature, but in the thoughts and reflection of human being and society there is install of the practice of biasness.
Anyway, be who you are, be contented with what you have and live with full will and determination. As said, "Your work can make your luck, but you luck cannot make your work."
Sangay, wish you wonderful and happy life with pen and paper....
